National Institute of Technology Trichy is one of the 31 National Institutes of Technology established by the Government of India. Today, NITT is an autonomous co-educational technological institute, with 10 undergraduate and 28 graduate programs. Undergraduate programs lead to the B.Tech degrees, while the graduate students and postgraduate students earn M.Tech, M.S. (by Research) and Ph. D degrees respectively. NITT also has a management and architecture school. NITT is located in Thuvakudi on the Trichy-Tanjore national highway, 17 km from Trichy Railway Junction.

The Department of Instrumentation and Control Engineering has seventeen regular faculty members with teaching and research interests that covers a broad range of fields and well qualified and experienced technical / supporting staff. The faculty members are working intensively in network control system, energy harvesting, product development, assistive devices, cyber physical system, next generation controllers, automation for agriculture, smart materials and structures, biomedical instrumentation, path planning algorithms for unmanned vehicles, intelligent control of big data systems.All the laboratories of the department are very well established with adequate facilities such as sufficient hardware and licensed software with necessary safety measures to cater to the needs of the UG and PG curriculum and research.
