Short Bio:
Mariza Mariam Koshy is a caring student with a positive vibe and helping nature. She would definitely strive and contribute whole-heartedly to any areas of interest.Her concern for social issues was reflected in her written tasks, where she voiced her views through articles. This trait is reflected further in her regular visits to the orphanages and old age homes.
Mariza likes to explore her skills. In the academic front she has appeared for Checkpoint and Olympiad test. She has exposure to ICSE till grade 7, IGCSE from 8-10 and IBDP (11 &12) curriculums. Along with her regular studies she has been attending Catechism classes every Sunday and bagged the first place in her church and stands second(Madras diocese) in the 10 th Board examination conducted for The Sunday School students. She has participated in various cultural and sports events proving herself to be an all-rounder.
Her proclivity towards arts was exposed as she pursued dance and has choreographed dance programmes for Christmas at her church. She was the lead dancer during the workshop conducted by the Shamak Davar Institute. She was an active singer in the school choir. Regarding instruments, she had appeared for TCL initial and First grade for Keyboard and passed with a distinction and merit. Though her passion for swimming and dancing was evident as she bagged various championships and gold medals she has shown equal interest in basketball, debate, singing and adventure camps.
She is a born leader as she has held the post of House-captain at the junior level , Head- Girl at the Higher secondary level and Director of UNEP (2018) and International Press (2017) for SIMUN held in Coimbatore. She is a happy “go lucky” girl who gels well with any age group.

Assumption College, is a NAAC accredited women’s college in Kerala, India. It is affiliated with Mahatma Gandhi University. The college offers both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in a variety of subjects. Initially, the college functioned as an annexe of S.B. College. In 1950, when the Catholic Church solemnly proclaimed the bodily assumption of the Blessed Virgin as a dogma of faith, the name ‘Assumption’ was found to be appropriate for this new women’s college, In 1955, Rev. Sr. Xavier S.A.B.S took over as the first woman Principal of the college and with her the college started functioning as an independent institution. Most of Assumption’s academic excellence and disciplinary tradition can be traced back to her period of efficient administration. The Principals who succeeded her shared her vision and steadfastly adhered to Assumption’s ideal of excellence.
Course Info:
The Department of English was established in the year 1950 , with part I English classes for undergraduates. The Department currently runs three courses – BA in English Language and Literature started in 1967, BA Communicative English (originally UGC sponsored) started in 1997 and a self-financing course in MA English Language and Literature introduced in 2003. In addition to these regular courses, since 2004 the Department has been running 50- hours Spoken English modules for students, through the Community College. We also offer an additional module to coach students for competitive exams at Madras.
