College Info:

Beginning in a small one-storey building in Santhome, Mylapore with 32 students, the College moved to its present campus “The Cloisters” on Cathedral Road in 1960. Today the College has an enrollment of 5000 students from diverse backgrounds, communities and nations. The College is a Catholic minority institution established and run by the Society of the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary (FMM), a religious congregation founded by Blessed Mary of the Passion (Helene de Chappotin) in Ootacamund, Tamil Nadu in 1877. The initiatives of the College arise from a sound philosophy of life based on faith in God and the contemporary reality of a pluralistic Indian society that is challenged by global ideologies and cultures.

n a hallmark move, and in answer to popular request from students, Stella Maris College introduced the undergraduate B.Sc Psychology degree in the academic year of June, 2016. Offered as an ancillary subject until now, the decision was validated by the overwhelming response from students. The mission of the Department of Psychology, Stella Maris College, is to “maximize individual potential by equipping every student with the knowledge of Psychology thereby bringing about holistic growth of self and transforming them into ambassadors for social intervention.” To this end, the Department offers an interesting bandwidth of courses as students work through the 3 year undergraduate degree. Hence, in addition to strong basic foundation courses, the Department offers courses such as Rehabilitation Psychology, Consumer Psychology and Psychology of Adolescence to name a few.
