Madras School of Economics is an institution of higher education in Economics, located in Chennai, India. Madras School of Economics was founded in 1993 as a post-graduate institution for teaching and research in economics. MSE has been offering a two-year Master’s program in General Economics, Financial Economics, Applied Quantitative Finance, Actuarial Economics and Environmental economics being affiliated to the Central University of Tamil Nadu, and a Ph.D. programme affiliated to the University of Madras.

An undergraduate education in economics focuses on learning to analyse the world in terms of trade-offs and incentives- that is, to think like an economist. Our Economics course is designed for students who intend to pursue a career in industry, public policy and academia as they are trained to perform such tasks as gathering and analyzing economic/financial data, writing computer programs, solving mathematical problems, forecasting, etc. To achieve these objectives, we will acquaint ourselves with the set of tools – terminology, methodology, and the way of thinking– of an economist and practice using these.

This course is unique as it adopts a quantitative, rigorous, data-driven analytic approach to the field. Students who complete this course have a fair chance to get admission into MA/MSc/PhD Program offered in reputed institutions both in India and abroad. This program opens up many possibilities for employment. MSE in fact has a very good track record of placing its MA Students (almost 100%).
