College Info:

The college is under the management of the Institute of the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary. It was founded on 15 August 1947 with an enrollment of 32 students in the intermediate class. Stella Maris was granted permanent recognition in 1951. The college has the unique credit of having initiated bachelor’s degrees in Western Music and History of Fine Arts, as well as master’s degrees in Social Work and Indian Music, at the University of Madras.

Course Info:

The Department of Economics was established by Rev. Mother Carla Rosa in the year 1948. The Post graduate programme started in the year 1959 – the first women’s college in the city to start a postgraduate programme in Economics. Due to determined efforts of Sr. Dr. Helen Vincent fmm; the department became a full-fledged research department with MPhil and PhD programmmes in the year 1982. The department has been steered steadily through the years by the skilled leadership and dedication of faculty.
