Seshasayee Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli, a pioneering Technical Institution occupying a unique position in the field of technical education in our country, is the outcome of the brilliant vision, farsightedness and philanthropy of our illustrious founder Thiru. V. Seshasayee who was a veteran industrialist and architect of various industrial ventures. He realized the need for more engineers and technicians for rapid industrialization of our country and started this Technical Institution in the year 1952 with the purse presented to him by his friends and well-wishers on the occasion of his 61st birthday. This technical institution was formally declared open on 28th January 1952. It made a humble beginning by conducting A.M.I.E classes. Many Arts and Science Graduates availed this opportunity to become engineers.

The State and the Central Government have since recognized this institution and this became a full-fledged aided polytechnic in 1955 with an annual intake of 100 students under the policy of Central and State Governments to produce more technicians to meet the requirements of industries. In 1958, the intake was increased to 120 and in 1961 it was further increased to 180 as both Central and State Governments were impressed with the functioning of this institution.

Course Info:

The Department of Paper Technology offers a 4-year course leading to a Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech.). The curriculum lays sufficient emphasis on fundamentals and applications of chemical engineering and basic sciences in paper manufacturing. Since the course is a unique industry oriented programme, students have a closure industry exposure through mill training and industry visits. To keep the students informed on the latest developments, the department strives to encourage its faculty to keep engaged in research and development activities and to upgrade the course curriculum from time to time. The theory courses are adequately supplemented by laboratory classes and Tutorials.
