Avinashilingam Institute for Home Science & Higher Education for Women is a women’s Deemed University in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, India. It was started in 1957 by the Avinashilingam Education Trust founded by T. S. Avinashilingam Chettiar as Avinashilingam Home Science College for Women which later grow into a university. Avinashilingam Institute for Home Science and Higher Education for women, Coimbatore was established as an aided college by the great patriot and educationist Padma Bhushan Dr.T.S.Avinashilingam under the auspices of the Avinashilingam Education Trust in1957 with 45 women students. Dr.Rajammal P.Devadas, doyen of Home Science nurtured the institution of what it is today.

Biotechnology has put this understanding into technological use, resulting in the development of successful industrial processes. Bioinformatics is the application of information technology to the management of the biological data, thus giving an altogether new dimension to the understanding of Biochemistry and Biotechnology. Knowing the importance of these subjects, the department has been built up with very strong roots and has grown into afull-fledged banyan, bringing Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Bioinformatics and all other allied fields under its banner.The department is very well equipped with several laboratories and instrument rooms, all of which house many state-of-the-art scientific equipment. The department also has specialized research laboratories for Animal Tissue Culture, PlantTissueCulture, Enzymology & Immunology and a Centralized Advanced Research Laboratory.
