The Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) had its genesis from establishment of an Agricultural School at Saidapet, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India as early as 1868 which was later relocated at Coimbatore during 1906.

Food technology is a branch of food science that deals with the production processes that make foods. The young generation is finding Food Technology and its applications in the food industry quite interesting, and therefore opting for B.Tech in Food Technology as their initial stepping-stone. The course is the application of food science to select, process, preserve and package food to retain its nutrition and taste for a longer duration. Students opting for this course learn about the skills required in food technology and management. Depending on the specialization, students learn every little detail about food microbiology, biochemistry, packaging and food formulation technology and food chemistry.
