What started with baby steps in 1981, NMIMS has today emerged as a globally reputed university. Always socially conscious, the Shri Vile Parle Kelavani Mandal (SVKM) made the decision to cater to the rising demand of management institutes in the country. This led to the birth of the Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS). It began humbly by offering two-year full-time master’s programme in management studies with 4 full time faculty, 3162 books and an intake of 40 students above Bhaidas Hall, Vile Parle (West), Mumbai. The meteoric growth of NMIMS is reflected in our core belief—that learning is most fruitful when knowledge and expertise of individuals from various disciplines and diverse backgrounds are shared. The emphasis of the course is to impart to the students specialized skill sets in the areas of finance, accounting and taxation with a view to careers in financial services. While there is enough diversity in the knowledge base for the B. Com graduates to excel in any field of enterprise of their choice, the primary focus is for them to function as top notch executives in the financial services industry in different fields of operations.One of the key factors that we develop amongst students is adaptability and hence, flexibility towards advanced training. Knowledge is imparted by using an innovative approach towards lectures, giving on the job experience through internship and complement class room teaching by organizing guest lectures and practical demonstrations relevant to gaining an elevated understanding of the subject in relation to its practical environment.
